So my cousin asked me to do a mini shoot for her daughter Emma. She wanted to document Emma's first birthday. So I took on the task thinking it was simple enough. Emma was already familiarized with me so I figured this shoot would be simple and easy. But I slowly learned life laughs at all pre-conceived notions we build in our minds. I finished the shoot after four hours, seven outfit changes, the "If You're Happy and You Know It" song on repeat...sigh... and Emma's minute by minute change from happiness and laughter to tears and hissy fits... back to laughter again. But at the end of the shoot as I sat on the floor exhausted looking at each shot, I realized capturing this little girl's smile and tears was worth it...
